Title: Lent Groups Book 2010
When faced with times of crisis or challenge, many people turn to self-help for support. But what about Christians? How can we find strength: not merely in self-help but in God's help?
A Way Through the Wilderness is a five-session course which explores God's promise to comfort his people as they struggle through life's wildernesses.Â

Each session focuses on an aspect of God's comfort, based on a short passage from Isaiah. It contains enough material for a group meeting of 90 minutes and includes:
- guidelines and full background notes for leaders
- a lively introduction for each section
- a passage from Isaiah, freshly translated by Paula
- prompts to aid both discussion and understanding
- inspiring quotations and personal stories
- questions to help course members apply the lessons learned
- ideas for using music in the group
- resources to support individual prayer and worship as a group
Paula Gooder is a writer and lecturer in Biblical Studies. She is a Reader in the Church of England and a member of the General Synod. Her 2009 Lent Course, Lentwise, was a best-seller: we at St Matthew's followed it.Â
Each Lent group leader will need a copy of the book. Copies can be ordered direct from www.bookdepository.co.uk for £4.29 inc delivery. An early order is advised.Â
Our Lent groups start during the week following Ash Wednesday (17 February). To be assured of a place, please sign up for your Lent group in the foyer at church.Â
Wishing you a creative and reflective Lent, well supported by your group and by all of us at St Matthew's.Â
