Lent 2010

Lent Groups

Starting at various times of day and on different days of the week, we have five Lent groups for people to join. You will find a sign up sheet in the foyer at church. Choose the one that fits your schedule best.

Group leaders will take us stage by stage through a course of readings and reflections by Dr Paula Gooder: 'A way through the widerness: experiencing God's help in times of crisis'. For more, see here.

Bishop of Croydon's Lent Bible Studies

The Bishop of Croydon, Rt Revd Nicholas Baines, will lead a Bible Study each Thursday in Lent: commencing on Thursday 18th February at Croydon Parish Church.

Theme: Re-shaping the world

The disciples who accompanied Jesus to Jerusalem were having their world turned upside down.  But what ‘world’ was it and what changed?  This Bible Study for Lent will take us on that journey to Jerusalem, inviting us to hear again the distant voices of God’s Old Testament people, experience afresh the Gospel road and reflect on our own discipleship of Jesus.

7.30pm Hymn & Prayer
7.40pm Bible Study
8.30pm Coffee & depart

Recommended Lent book

Our recommended book for solo reading (as against group study) is Andrew Rumsey's 'Strangely Warmed: Reflections on God, Life and Bric-a-Brac'. You can see more here.

Lent services

Lent services will be held at 12 noon each Saturday during Lent, starting on 20 February and continuing each week until 27 March.

In our Lent services we will focus each week on one of the charities promoted this year by Bishop Tom (see his pastoral letter below). Each Saturday service will be followed by a frugal Lent lunch, where we will collect donations for the charities.
