Dear Readers

THE NEED FOR RENEWAL

Stark is the need for renewal amongst people in Burma and China. Following the cyclone and earthquake people are grieving. They face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives, homes and infrastructure. Let us pray for them and those who come to their aid. As usual we can channel our personal aid through aid agencies including Christian Aid – www.christianaid.org.uk – and the Disasters Emergency Committee: www.dec.org.uk/. The news may have moved on, but people who suffer need longer term support.

Stark too is the need for renewal here in the UK. With such widespread denial of spiritual realities in the media and in common speech, it can be difficult for us to attend to our own spiritual needs and those of our family and community.

Might I suggest that we look to Christ for examples of how to live one’s life; and through the church gain access to seminars, courses and teaching? Do keep an eye on the notice boards in the church foyer, for opportunities come and go!

As the summer approaches may we each reflect on the way Jesus would sometimes withdraw from others in order to ‘recharge’. To reflect in the presence of God; to clarify; to renew. Traditionally in the UK many people take a break during the summer months to ‘get away from it all’.

If you are able to do so over the summer, do take some time to simply ‘be in the presence of God’. If you would like advice on how you might do this, please ask our Assistant Curate Revd Michelle Edmonds or me.

With every blessing
